"The Highest Bidder"

What an emotional and inspiring story!  The 1936 Study Club, along with their many neighbors and friends, gathered on November 8th to hear firsthand the story of redemption told by Teresa Richenberger.

Teresa is the founder of Rahab’s Retreat and Ranch, a faith-based recovery home and ranch for women and children located in Kilgore, TX, and author of Sold to the Highest Bidder.

Teresa shared her life story and dynamic testimony of how Christ saved her from a life of drugs, exotic dancing and prostitution which began in her teens.  Through laughter and a few tears, she told how she finally gave herself to the Highest Bidder, Jesus Christ.  She now dedicates her life to saving other women and children.

For more information about her ministry, contact them at www.rahabsretreatandranch.comor (903) 218-4985.

The 1936 Study Club will have a bake sale on Tuesday, November 20th, at the Community Bank, 104 Hwy 155, Avinger, TX.  They will also sponsor the Angel Tree that supports the hopes and dreams of many Avinger area children this Christmas.

October at the Cabin

October found the ladies of the 1936 Study Club back at the charming little cabin in the woods.

This time our guest speaker was Lottie Guttrey, author of "Alligator Creek", a book based on a true story of her Civil War ancestors.

The stories were inspiring, and the fellowship and food were delicious.

And the hostesses really outdid themselves with Autumn decorating!

Plans were made for the club's annual Bake Sale in November, and the Angel Tree to provide for local children at Christmas.

Hearts full of Grace

There may be no greater pleasure than that which is felt while doing good works.  Service to our fellow man (and woman) blesses the giver as well as those served.  Doing Good Deeds is a simple and universal vision and one of mankind's most glorious tasks.  Having a Heart full of Grace is a key to having a Heart full of Happiness.

With those thoughts in mind, we would like to share two of our March projects.  The ladies of the 1936 Study Club collected toiletries and stuffed animals.  These items were distributed to the local Sheriff's office and the Cass County Battered Women's Shelter.  Law Enforcement officers are able to calm children in difficult situations with Teddy Bears and other stuffed toys.

The women fleeing to shelters often escape with only the clothes on their backs.  The basic necessities can become a source of joy for their broken hearts.  Two boxes of toiletries and stuffed toys were delivered to the Women's Shelter retail shop for distribution to these women.  These are just a sampling of the items donated.

We are thankful to the local citizens who helped in our collection efforts.  If you're in Cass County you can shop at  Hidden Treasures in Atlanta, the resale shop that supports the Women's Shelter.  All donations support victims of sexual assault and families involved in Violence.

May the givers be blessed with Joy!  The kindness that comes from Hearts full of Grace is a blessing to all!

Irish Tea

St Patrick's Day Celebration

It's March, and that means the "wearing of the green" and all things Irish.  So our monthly meeting included a lovely Irish afternoon Tea, some Irish tunes, and a bit of Craic (news, gossip, fun, entertainment, and enjoyable conversation).  The sandwiches, cheese, crisps, fruit and desserts left us a bit too full to dance a jig, but we did paint some rocks and gather toiletries for a local women's shelter.

We all enjoyed the Kerrygold cheese and butter, which are hard to find in Texas!

And the Lemon Curd served up in mini phyllo shells was delicious!  We are happy to share our simple recipe...hope you enjoy it!

Lemon Curd
Makes 1 1/3 cups
2 tsp fresh Lemon zest
3 Eggs, large
1/2 cup fresh squeezed Lemon juice
1/2 cup Sugar
3/4 stick Butter, unsalted, cut into bits
Whisk together lemon juice, zest, sugar, and eggs in a heavy 2 qt saucepan. Gently stir in butter and cook over moderate heat, whisking frequently, until curd is thick enough to show marks of whisk, about 6 minutes.
Pour lemon curd into a bowl, Cover surface with plastic wrap, and chill at least 1 hour.
Recipe can be doubled and Curd can be stored in refrigerator up to 1 week. Can also be served in mini pie shells.
